Special Expeditions - Exclusive Expeditions for 2012

Why a specialty expedition when we still run our existing trips?

Each expedition is focused on a particular species and is hosted by experts in that species behaviour and ecology.

The group size for each expedition has been limited to a maximum of anywhere from 8 - 12 participants only (all other great white shark operators take between 12 - 45 guests per boat). Limited numbers of guests on board ensures the best viewing potential, an un-crowded and intimate environment, maximum cage dive time and exceptional photographic opportunities.

Dates for each expedition have been specifically chosen as the very best period in the year to experience the specialty on offer.

Join our shark experts on an expedition of discovery!

Seven Gill Cow Shark Dive

The seven gill cow shark dive takes place at Pyramid Rock in False Bay usually on scuba. The launch site, Millers Point is a convenient 5 minutes from Simon’s Town, making this a perfect activity after a morning Great white shark trip.

The Seven Gill Cow shark, or Spotted Cow shark, is a prehistoric apex predator and the king of the kelp forest. This dive site is one of the few places in the world where you have a great chance of diving with this rarely seen shark (an 85% success rate). Thick kelp forest fringes the channel making this ideal habitat. A variety of small endemic cat shark species (brown shy shark, puff adder shy shark, striped cat shark and leopard cat shark) and spotted gulley sharks may also be encountered.

Cape Fur Seal Dive

The location of this dive, Partridge Point, is close to Pyramid Rock and is an option to do before the Seven Gill Cow shark dive.

The Cape Fur Seal is a fascinating marine mammal that is curious and very playful. As such the seals often approach divers and groups of seals will often put on a display of underwater “hydrobatics” and make mock charges at divers before swerving away at the last moment.

They live in colonies which can range from a few hundred individuals, such as the dive site at Partridge Point, to huge colonies like Seal Island in False Bay or Duiker Islandoff the Sentinel in Hout Bay – where they can number in the tens of thousands.

Whale Trips

WITNESS THE MYSTERIES OF THE GREAT WHALES UP CLOSE ON A WHALE WATCHING TRIP

At the southern tip of Africa, where two of the world's greatest oceans converge, a total experience of land, sea and the rainbow culture of the Western Cape offer you the most exciting land based whale watching venues in the world!

Each year Southern Right whales migrate into the coastal waters of the Western Cape to calve and nurse their young. The animals, often mere metres from the shore, provide unsurpassed whale watching opportunities between June and November. At this time people descend on False Bay for whale watching trips. Humpbacks migrate through the region between May and December each year, while Bryde's whales are found slightly further offshore all year round. Shore based whale watching trips provide a steady stream of tourists to False Bay towns during the off season.
