Mako and Blue sharks

Dive with the king of the open ocean

An open ocean adventure

These dives cater perfectly to those with a penchant for adventure, a passion for nature and a desire to do something a little different. These trips allow you to see the majestic Mako and Blue Sharks up close in the inky blue waters off Cape Point.

Diving with these animals is a breathtaking experience. Our success rate in seeing either Blue or Mako Sharks on these pelagic trips is about 85%. We also dive with huge Yellowfin Tuna and other species.

To find the sharks we need to locate the Agulhas Current. This flows in different areas each day, but is usually found between 15 and 30 nautical miles from Cape Point.

Once we reach the current, we will spend some time fishing for fresh bait and guests are welcome to try their hand at this.

After a detailed safety briefing guests may dive when the first shark arrives. All diving is on snorkel and in the safety of a cage. Guests should remember that they don’t have to dive with the sharks to get good views since these sharks come right up to the boat.

Lunch is available throughout the course of the day, accompanied by soft drinks, fruit juice, bottled water and a variety of snacks.

When to see what

The high season for pelagic sharks is November to February. Water temperature is around 19° – 23°C and visibility averages between 50 and 100 feet (15 - 30 metres) during Mako or Blue shark diving trips.

This trip is particularly dependant on weather given how far offshore we work. We are normally at sea two to three times over a ten day period for this trip. If we cannot go out due to weather conditions, and your schedule allows, we will reschedule the trip.
