From mid-September to February, the best chance of seeing and shark cage diving with great whites is in Gansbaai.
Gansbaai is only 2 hours from Cape Town and door to door transfers can be arranged. Dyer Island and Shark Alley in Gansbaai has become known as one of only two unique areas in the world, where the chances to view the great white shark is exceptionally high. Gansbaai focuses on cage diving and it is unlikely to see the breaching behaviour here. Having been involved in the industry since its inception, Chris Fallows has also spent four years working in Gansbaai from 1992-1996.
A colony of approximately 40000 Cape Fur Seals inhabits the smaller Island (Geyser Rock). Other wildlife species such as Cape Gannets, Cape Cormorants, African Penguins, whales and dolphins are also likely to be sighted. So if you’re shark cage diving in Gansbaai you are assured to have an all-round experience.
Environment and Education
There are 8 other operators in this area and it can be confusing as to which is the best company to book with, so this is where we can advise you. There is no extra charge for us to book you on this tour with our sister operator and the benefit to you is that you will be going with a reputable operation that offers an environmentally friendly and educational experience.
Our shark cage diving trip in Gansbaai is hosted by a marine biologist and 6 other experienced and well trained guides and the aim is to educate you about the biology and conservation of the great white shark whilst having a once in a life time experience!
Every effort is made not to intentionally feed the sharks during our Gansbaai shark cage diving trips.
Safety and Cage Diving
Your safety is paramount. During the shark cage diving trip divers will be supervised by a Dive Master and we have all the required permits and safety equipment on board.
We make use of a securely designed steel cage, which floats on the surface, with divers no more than 1m below the surface.
All dives are breath-hold which is comfortable and safe, this is common practice among Gansbaai shark cage diving operators - NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
The best way to see the sharks is to simply hold your breath!
Surface viewing
White sharks are indeed surface feeders, providing brilliant surface viewing from the safety of the shark-viewing deck of the boat. The shark handlers are trained to bring the sharks close to the side of the boat. So, for those not wanting to go shark cage diving, you will still get to see this amazing animal up close and personal. The price is the same for diving and surface viewing. Our Gansbaai shark cage diving trips are designed with everybody’s comfort in mind.
The Boat
SlashFin is the newest custom built shark cage diving boat in the industry. Her surround decks offer the best in shark surface viewing. A large dry cabin, flush toilets and cushioned seats all add to the comfort of our Gansbaai shark cage diving guests.

Video and DVD footage of your adventure
The service of a professional underwater videographer who is highly experienced in this field is on board. Your personal shark cage diving trip to Gansbaai will be captured on a high quality video / DVD (above and underwater) and a copy will be made available to you after the tour at a minimal cost.
