We’ll arrive early at Seal Island, Mossel Bay as this is the optimum time to view the sharks breaching. Our data indicates that half an hour before sunrise to one and a half hours after sunrise is the best time to witness this natural event. The early bird catches the worm and this most certainly applies at Seal Island.
- You’ll meet the crew at Mossel Bay Harbour where your skipper and captain will brief you on safety and weather for the trip.
- Thereafter you’ll head out to Seal Island in Mossel Bay which is a 10 minute boat ride based on sea and weather conditions.
- In order to elicit the breaching behaviour, a decoy will be towed behind the vessel. Now, all you need to do is point your camera at the decoy and wait!
- The breaching behaviour can go on for an hour or two or much less. It depends on many factors including the light on the day, currents, wind and the animals themselves.
- Once the optimum conditions are over, you will return to shore.
- Tea and coffee are available at the Shark centre and if you would like to cage dive, we can book this straight after the breaching trip.
Many of the world’s most famous breaching shark images have been taken in this location and our small group size offers our guests the ONLY photographic and natural history opportunity like this available in South Africa, if not in the world.
